Sound Generations
Sound Generations
Seattle, WA
Sound Generations is a non-profit agency that supports the ability of low-income senior citizens to live independently and with dignity. The agency needed a new downtown headquarters to house its administrative and service programs, but it also was challenged to find a site to construct downtown housing for its clientele. Considering the synergies between these two programs, the agency decided that integrating their offices with an increment of senior housing would be philosophically and economically desirable.
Accordingly, five levels of apartments were located above three levels of administrative offices. For philosophical reasons, a common “walk-in” lobby serves both the housing and administrative offices. Similarly, the agency’s multi-purpose rooms are often utilized by the residents. The sense of community is enhanced with view-oriented common rooms at each floor and a shared roof terrace and garden.
