YouthCare and Community Roots Housing are co-developing a new mixed-use affordable housing and homeless teen education center project. YouthCare’s employment and education programs focus on ensuring that homeless youth can overcome barriers, build technical and leadership skills, and achieve lasting stability. The new building will provide opportunities to achieve their potential and will  add 71+ affordable housing units to the neighborhood.

The site is located at the busy intersection of Broadway and Pine Street and lies within the Pike/Pine Conservation Core. The project will honor the legacy of Nellie Cornish and the Cornish College of the Arts, which was located in the Booth Building (1534 Broadway) in the early days of the school, by locating YouthCare’s education programs at this prominent corner.  The new education facilities will encourage diverse learning styles and help build each student scholar’s confidence. The affordable studio units will be located in an addition to the Booth Building, thereby taking advantage of the site’s central location, nearby open space, and accessible public transit.

The image shown above depicts the site as it exists today. Construction is estimated to commence in 2022.
